We've played for the longest time with a wound system, but most conventional players and games are based on a hit rule. So below I have explained both rule sets, and this poll will lock on 10 April 2010 and whichever wins, we will most likely use for the entire game on 11 April (if the games allow it)
Wound rule: Players can have up to 3 wounds before they are out. A wound is a hit anywhere from the shoulder down their arm, or their thighs down to their feet. Torso, Abdomen, neck and head are instant kills (however we highly discourage aiming for a target's head, and unnecessary roughness will result in you being banned.) If you are wounded, you call out "Wound!" Your 3rd wound, is a kill, and must be called as such.
Hit rule: Basically self explanatory, if your hit at all, you're out of the game.

Good explanation. I don't know if the wound rule will work for all games, but for most of the games we'll play I think it'll work pretty well. I think wounds are a good alternative to multiple respawns or rules regarding tagging teammates back in.

Honestly I'd go with the hit rule, at least for bigger games. Its just more realistic. The wound rule would be a little more fun with smaller games.

You didn't mention the fact that normally hit rule games include respawn.
In cqb i have no problem with wound rules. how ever in the woods where stealth and positioning are more important, wound rules effectively negate the ability of an individual to remain undetected bu not forcing immediate withdrawl of the hit player with a dead men don't talk sanction.

Hit rule is the way to go. Then there is less arguing over keeping track of hit counts and who-shot-who-first. It's just one and done. It's more realistic thus requiring careful planning for position and advancement.

If I am playing with my friends I try to do a variation of the wound rules, but in large games where people are complete strangers the hit rule is a lot more feasible.
